Hi.....everyone....

I just wanna to know, what is refugium use for and the benefit. Can provide me some photo????? because I never know about it.... When I setup my SW tank I never been told about this refugium....maybe in my country not using this method for filteration. Even if I go to aquarium shop and asking about this metter they don't know and asking me back what is it....?

Hoping someone can explain?????? :help:

A refugium is an area, typically of the sump, or as a hang-on box, that provides nutrient export by using live rock, sand and macro algae such as Chaetomorph..usually has a slow flow through refugium which allows a long contact time between algae and water.

Attached a photo....

The original purpose is to provide refuge to animals (like pods) and/or algae that might be preyed upon in the tank giving them a chance to develop and sustain without being wiped out. This type of refugium might be inside or outside the tank. There are many benefits to connecting an external refugium including increased water volume, a place to put more live rock and increase filtartion, and a place to put all your equipment heaters, skimmer etc so they aren't visible and don't take up space in your display tank. So people often keep them for these reasons and not to simply provide refuge.

Sure your not confused with a sump here??

I suppose technically I could be. Although people do place heaters and the like in their hang on refugiums. I guess it's a sump if you build it to be put your equipment in but if you build it to grow pods and then think hey I'll throw my heater in here I would think it's still a refugium? Oh course I could just be confused I'm no expert by any stretch. That's why I'm always a little hesitant about commenting on the real fish stuff.

Kind of a semantic argument at that point...does a shed turn into a garage if you park a car in it? Who cares as long as the car is protected. "That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet."
