I found that dwarf hairgrass is just like java moss.. if you leave it alone and just forget about it for a month then it grows just fine. I am finally getting a small carpet.
I burried the small bunches seperated from the pot and inserted the roots in to the substrate. Then when I pulled up the plant a little, to expose the part from which the roots arise (is it necessary for hair grass), the whole plant just comes out of the substrate... I'm not able to balance it exactly so that the root is inside the substrate and the rest of the part is above....
the dwarf hairgrass is what like 1.5-2" ?! I push it into the gravel about 1/4-1/2 of an inch, no need to pull back on them, in a few weeks (many weeks) you can trim the blades so they are all at equal height and will grow in faster.
I've attached a pic to show the gravel depth and gravel size of my tank. The depth is about 3 inches in the front and 5 inches at the back. Kindly see the pic for visual details...
So is it ok if the crown part is also burried ? Will the grass still survive ?
