Regarding Non-Eheim External Filters - Kindly Guide me

Hi Sir,

Thank you so much for the kind guidance and for sparing the time for me. I really want to buy this filter now...

I'll keep in mind every little detail that you have kindly given me...

The only problem I see is that this is the only store that has this filter in my town and he has just one piece. I'll have to take it or leave it. He says he I can check everything before buying though...

Sir, will be a great help if you can guide me on which are the parts that are most prone to manufacturing defects so that I can thoroughly check them before I buy it.

The filter is Sun-Sun 302 and has 3 baskets - is this the one you are talking about sir ? The price that the shop guy can give it to me is 2800 in my currency which is roughly around 60 USD...

I think I can buy it if I save enough for a month or 2 - should I go for it sir ?

I plan to keep the extra Eheim Substrat Pro media that is lying around, in the first and last basket, as you have suggested and I can keep bits of corals and shells in the middle one or maybe filter wool in it...

Please guide me Sir...
 
Sir just one last question ( please excuse me if I'm bothering or troubling you too much - I just want to be sure as this filter will cost a lot, considering my income / savings )

My tank has a bracing design like the below diagram -

I only have 2 x 2" squares on the 2 back corners to allow any filter intake and outlet tubes and I already have 2 Eheim 2217s installed in the tank. I can try to squeeze in the inlet of the sunsun filter in the gap in one corner and the outlet in the other but just wanted to know if there is any other way that I can install this filter on my tank ?

I mean is the Curve of the 'umbrella handle' like section of the Inlet and Outlet of the sun-sun filter is wide enough to cross the 4" bracing on the back ? I hope I've asked my question clearly - kindly excuse me if I'm getting a little confused here...

Is there any other way that I can connect and install this filter on my tank Sir ? Please guide me...

The 302 comes with a spray bar but you don't have to use it, you can use the simple "Umbrella" tube and place it anywhere as it is only 1/2 inch diameter. Since you have the aquarium in front of you in 3 dimensions, only you can only decide the placement.

I paid $59 US dollars shipped so $60 is pretty good, Id buy it if I needed a main back-up filter. But 3 main filters wow, you must have a big tank like 150-200 gallons or those 2217's just aren't doing the job. No matter really as more is better then not enough.

Sir, the tank is 212 Gallons, 6.5 Feet x 2.5 Feet x 1.75 Feet and I thought it will be better to have more than required filtration, just to make sure everything runs well...

Just a quick note:

I had a SunSun tank. I suppose it can happen to any tank, but the tank leaked less than one year after setup. It ruined the cheap cabinet they supplied too. The tank was level and I can only think it was poor craftmanship. However, I also have a couple of other SunSun products. I had lights, which seemed good and worked all the time. I had a powerhead which works very well but is very noisy compared to other brands. I also have a wavemaker which is again very powerful. My advice is, they are ok for equipment but check regularly if they can leak, and don't expect them to last as well as other brands. But if you want something a little cheaper, then go for it.
 
On any canister lid when disassembling for cleaning or maintenance make sure you inspect and lube the main large O-ring flipping the O-ring over to inspect the back side for cracks, lubing all sides with Vaseline, and reinserting to the opposite side under new tension, sort of like flipping your pillow over after it gets flat, this helps the O-ring from becoming flat and losing sealing tension against the lid from flat spots.

Flat spot occurs when the lid is removed for cleaning and the main O-ring is ignore and reassembled without inspection, cleaning, lubing and flipping. Doing this will most likely alert you to a potential seal issue.

Also on all my cam-lock top canisters I place a piece of aluminum tape which insure that the cam handles cannot accidentally pop up during a pressure surge or inspection by some child visiting your home. Aluminum tape is strong and leaves no residue like duct tape when removed.

Canister basket cam-locks were for easy one step lid sealing convenience but this is why more seriously engineered canisters have multiple clasps or threaded bolts with hold down nuts so that lid pop doesn't happen, so use a little piece of tape (preferably aluminum) to insure no power-loss/restart pop and tampering.
