I was looking at 55 gallon aquariums this weekend, both new and used. 269.00 U.S. was average for a new one on sale...sometimes plexiglass, sometimes glass. I tried to find info on the Regent Aqua-tech, but came up with only a short comment on the smaller Walmart aquarium kits. I guess it depends on what you what to do with it. You mentioned what it comes with, but could you be more specific? For example, what type of bulbs does it come with? I'm guessing it's all glass. I don't know that one filter is enough. It would depend on the filter. Same goes for the heater. Is it a tall or long 55 gallon?

It's a long 55, if it's the same one our Wal-Mart carries. I did some looking on the other Aqua-Tech pumps Wal-Mart had on the shelf and lo and behold, they are made by Marineland (makers of Penguin, Empreror, etc) power filters. Take that with a grain of salt, this is likely their low-end filter. The heater is... oh heck, I can't recall the brand now. I know the aquairum is all glass. I also know the hood is flourescent, single tube. All in all, if you're willing to shell out for a better filter and heater and maybe a tc8 light (if you want to go planted) it's not that bad a deal.

If the filter doesn't totally suck, you could always use it on a smaller tank...

if tanks are expensive where you are its a nice deal but i can get the tank locally then all the supplies included, higher quality supplies from big als and everything would be cheaper than than the package. the filters are fine just regular marineland stuff without the bio wheels. they are repackaged penguins; im sure they dont make lower quality just because its at walmart. i have some running for years and they are doing great.

Paroon, I'm not sure where you are in Canada, but here in Toronto Big Al's is selling a 65g kit (looked at this when buying my 65g) that includes the tank, stand, a single strip light and glass cover for $299.99. You'd still need a good filter, but it's a steal.
I've seen those kits at Wal-Mart - it's not a bad deal but I'd rather go with a canister for a tank that size, and an Ebo-Jager heater.

Agree Blinky...I would think the Marineland Kits would be a better bet than those at wal-mart. Big Als is advertising a big Boxing clearence thingy so you might want to check that out first.

Man I wish I lived in Canada... well, ok, only when it comes to fish and tank buying, hockey, and speaking french. Was that 299.99 Canadian? That's like what? Fifty cents American? :)

Seriously though, I'd be all over a deal like that right now, and with Boxing Day coming up and all the sales... I'd be waiting a bit to see.

hagen

i think im gonna buy a 77 g hagen tank(tank only) for 276... and just biuld on from there.
how does that sound?

That sounds overpriced to me. My 65g was only $99.99, and the same tank will be $79.99 at the Boxing day sale at Big Al's (it's in the flyer). I can't imagine a 72g costing that much more - check out the sales in a couple days :D

I hope that inludes the hood and a light of some sort for that price. Big als is advertising a (tank only) perfecto 90 for 169.99. Figure about 50.00 for a glass top and about 250ish for a double 48" AllGlass light tube. I paid just over 100 for a perfecto 75. So with a single light (SA chiclids) and perfecto glass tops it was about 275 ish.
