Regualer rock to Live rock ????

I have a green spotted puffer and a small silver scat in the tank. I plan to leave them in for the cycle. My sub is sand and i took off the bio wheel on my hob filter. new media in it. I have just reached full marine level and will watch the cycle closely with test kits.

when should i start testing for amm, nit, nat ?

should i feed the fish at all or dont feed ?

My next step is to aquire live rock.

i would seriously advise against cycling with fish. it is cruel and many do not survive
also, lava rock, although sometimes suitable, is not a very good alternative because it is a heck of a lot denser than live rock. you wont have nearly the surface area for bacteria to grow that you would with live rock. same with with jsut about any other type.
