i have a 125 gallon tank that i blocked off for my oscar that was getting beat up by my green terror........and the oscar bounced back and hes all up to typical oscar behavior beggin for food when i go by the tank and i think has a lil size on him......but i was wonderin when a good time would be to take out the barrior and see if the green terror will be him up again or not...cause id like to give the oscar more swimming room.......or is their anything else i should try?

as long as its eating well and is healthy, and the green terror is uninterested with the oscar at this point I dont see any reason why you couldnt try to "set it free" now? let it go when you have a few hours to monitor the tank and see what happens

how is it that you can say its unintrested in the oscar now? theirs no tellin how its gonna react now........only outher thing i can think of is adding a jd like i planed to take the heat off the oscar cause the oscar has been their...and the jd isnt a wimp like a oscar is...shurg i dunno

I would add something big that causes a natural division of the tank such as a large piece of driftood- I'm talking small stump in this scenario, as well as strategically placed plants. Obviously, your fish will dig up the plants, but this can be circumvented through using rocks, zip ties and the like. This natural dividing line will help each fish mark out its own territory rather than a large, open area without anything to break up sight lines.

I have had good luck with common ivy in that respect. It might not be the most asthetically pleasing but when my GT chases my oscar or my JD he will run into the plants and stop chasing them most times. oh BTW if your GT is beating on your oscar and you plan on getting a JD to keep him occupied he is just going to chase both of them. Then you will end up with two beat up fish instead of one. If you are going to go that route I would suggest possibly a school of silver dollars or something depending on your tank size.

Is the GT much bigger than the O? You didnt say. Even if the GT has only an inch on the Oscar, he could be having ego issues.

Getting a few dither fish wouldnt be a bad idea. Adding another cichlid could be bad news though.
Rearanging the tank like the others said seems to help sometimes also.

Regardless of the size of the GT, they will be more aggressive than oscars (in most cases.....I have seen GT bully Piranhas and JD's for example) Most GT's are very aggressive, whereas Oscars can be the same or timid. I have never seen a timid GT yet....but rearranging the tank is always a nice way to mix it up a little.

well its a 125 gallon tank......and theirs just the gt and the oscar and a false red terror in the tank....the gt picks on the false rt but not to the extent that he did with the oscar.....i figure hes more aggressive cause hes only got 2 fish and hes got the rt in check...so he went after the oscar...but if their was like more then just 3 fish in the tank he might calm down or have more evenlly placed aggression not just all on one fish

My Oscars and GT's stay in their own territories on either side of the tank. When either swims out to the common area in the middle of the tank, they jaw at each other and open their moths real wide trying to scare the other but no blood is spilled!
