Hey guys,

I took a bit of a hiatus when I left college for summer break. I was working six days a week, and although you guys are great, I didn't find a lot of free time to talk about fish. Especially because I had so many questions about rodents and had to spend a lot of time learning stuff from rodent forums-- I bought two gerbils and a hamster. They made awesome additions to my animal menagerie.

However, three weeks before school was scheduled to start, I received an email from the housing department that announced my school had adopted a stringent no pets policy. No pets at all. I started a small protest movement and wrote letters, but to no avail. Sadly I was forced to find homes for the gerbils and I returned the hamster to the store. I moved the fish from my 12 gallon Eclipse tank into my family's already over loaded 20 gallon (bad I know, but no LFS would take my fish).

Then I arrive at school, all dejected and whatnot, and two weeks later, I learn that the policy had been changed, and tropical fish are now allowed again!

AAAAARGGGH. Well, by this time my mother has managed to kill off most of my fish. I decided due to the inaccessibility of elec. outlets and lack of space in my new dorm that I will not set up the 12 gallon tank again.

Currently, I have a male and female betta (LFS variety, nothing fancy), each in a 1 gallon bowl. Yes, I know this is a travesty to some, but my mother is bringing my 2.5 gallon Mini-Bow in early October when she visits. I told her I wanted to buy another Mini-Bow anyway, but she absolutely forbids the purchase of yet another aquarium.

So it looks like I'm sticking to bettas for now, but I know I'll soon be bitten by the bug again...

So now everyone is up to date on my life story. I hope I wasn't totally forgotten.

I'm glad to be back!

heeeeeeeeey Aquarius!!! WOWEE you sure did go through a lot of heartaches..... I know how hard it is to give up a pet, big or small. BUT Welocme back to the world of FISHES!!!! And welcome back to the boards!!!!!!!! :D

Welcome back!! I remember you! Sorry for all the hassle! Grrrr! That's why I moved to an apt my sophomore year.....I WILL NOT tell you how long ago that was!! :D

I can understand the frustration of not having pets where you live. I just got on a waiting list for an apartment and I can only have 1 cat. I am owned by 3 but rules are rules. Besides, I can't wait to get out of the neighborhood where I am living now.
The apartment complex where I am moving to is charging me $300 for a deposit on my 1 cat and $10 a month extra on my rent. I am real surprised they didn't want a damage deposit for my 55g. tank. I did tell them I have a tank but they didn't ask what size and I didn't volunteer any information.
