Remembrance Day!

Being a son and brother to people in my family who have served in the military, I want to thank the families who have stood by and watched their loved ones go off to defend the freedoms that we have. These families have sacrificed a great deal as well. They have lost their loved ones, seen them come home wounded or made different from the sights that they have seen that men and women on a normal basis would never see or experience... I salute the love that the families have for their loved ones who go over to serve, protect and defend what it good and right... FREEDOM.

For a person to apply for guard duty at the tomb, he must be between 5' 10" and 6' 2" tall and his waist size cannot exceed 30." Other requirements of the Guard: They must commit 2 years of life to guard the tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on
or off duty for the rest of their lives. They cannot swear in public for the
rest of their lives and cannot disgrace the uniform {fighting} or the tomb in
any way. After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on
their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only
400 presently worn. The guard must obey these rules for the rest of their
lives or give up the wreath pin.

My father is in that elite group of 400. He served in the guard during the Vietnam war. He has told me many stories about his service and one day i hope that he and i can go back to DC to see where he served. He also served at Arlington cemetary under the burial guard. He represented the Army during the offical burial ceremony where one person from each branch of the armed services carries the caskets. Nothing gives me a stronger feeling of country than when he talks about his service.

thanks, Sumthin Fishy..I've heard that, but it is always good to be reminded.

My husband and his friends are Civil war renactors. They dressed in perion uniforms yesterday and marched in the local parade. They also go to cemetaries and do honor guard duties.
