Remove Bio-balls or not?

live rock rubble is better than bioballs since the live rock contains micro fauna which will break down other substances besides ammonia and nitrites, the micro fauna breaks down nitrates phosphates and some other stuff as well as breaking down ammonia and nitrite. Bio balls clean 2 things, live rock rubble cleans 4+ things. Hope this could clear some things up. Dont buy some live rock and smash it up, try to ask the lfs to give you already rubbled rubble. My lfs live rock area has all these pebbled size rocks at the bottom and im sure your lfs could pick those out for you.

just wondering what is wrong with smashing the rock?

im just an environmentalist and i see smashing up a rock is wasting it, its my personal opinion and if you do smash it it will still work, but i just dont like it.

I dont see what the issue is? its not going to waste and your not going to hurt it...How do mean its being wasted by breaking it up? Sorry for asking but i dont understand your response musho...

well most of the time live rock is taken from the ocean as a whole. Some laws say you cant take live rock until after a storm on the reef. Well if it left the ocean in that form i see that it should stay in that form in case it ever goes back.

no im just replying to posts, im sure your cutting down trees now though

Back on topic...

Yeah a few LFS sell the rubble and have little pieces in the bottom of their curing tanks. Not sure if any sell these small pieces online. Anyone know?
