Hi Friends !

I hope all is well !

A few months back, I left my 4 feet acrylic (molded) tank unattended for a month or 2, and because of that the tank has developed unsightly layers of salt and mineral deposits on the front side (because of gradual evaporation)

No when I fill up the tank, the layers are really ugly and are at different levels.

Kindly guide me on how to remove these - I cant use anything that my scratch the acrylic...
Please guide and help me...
Thanks and Regards

Personally I would take a real soft cloth, and see if it would just wipe up. Start over on the side, so you can see if it scratches or not.

Otherwise you never said if there are fish in there or not. If there no fish in the tank, just blast it with a hose, and let the water work the salt off.

Hi there !

Thanks a lot for the reply ! Yes, there are fish in there and the tank has just cycled... I have been adviced to lower the water level by few inches and to use a little vinegar on the salt stains. I'm just afraid if vinegar is safe for the fish (incase a few drops fall in to the tank...)

Kindly advice...
Thanks a lot !

I think I would use a little plain fresh water first, and see if that helps.

Otherwise I think vinegar is basically ammonia, so you won't kill the tank if a little gets in, but I would avoid it if possible. (Don't take my word on this one, maybe someone else can back this thought up.)

Have you tried setting up a power head to focus is output on a section of the salt buildup? Perhaps a lot of extra flow directed on a small place would dissolve the salt.

Vinegar is what I'd use but I've never had acrylic. It's not ammonia, it's acetic acid often ~5% so a few drops wouldn't do too much harm. It seems like the salts could scratch too so go slow.
