Rena Air Pumps

ya so I got the rena 400 today, and lets just say that I am not that impressed with it, it is louder then the other one I have! I tried wraping it up ina towel, and it just vibrate on the stand and makes it louder, any suggestions on how to make it quieter? and it seems to get louder as I try to find new ways to make it quieter

I have several Renas (mostly, I don't use them now) and they are by far the quietest pumps I ever came across. You can also buy replacement diaphragms for them (the part that wears out in air pumps) for just a few bucks.

I am thinking about running the pump from behind the wall where you can't hear it, it will be 25 feet from the tank, anyone have done this, so my tank is on one wall, and the pump is going to be across the room, "in the wall" There shouldnt be anything wrong with that right!??!

ryknier, you must have a defective one and that's all there is to it. Granted, you got the 400 but it still should be very quiet. Like I said, I have the 400 and I have zero noise complaints. It isn't silent but I never considered wrapping it in a towel or anything. I have mine on a piece of fleece blanket to stop my stand from reverberating. My 200 is extremely quiet. Maybe try 2 200's?

Does it have the output you were looking for? I'm surprised you didn't mention it's size!

I'd recommend exchanging it for another because IMO there must be a problem with the one you have.

ehh the size wasnt really a problem for me, but the noise is for sure! All I know is that its annoying to have operating in the same room as me!

You really can't hear my 400 unless you're quite close to it... I agree, it sounds defective.

You can run the pump from another room, but the longer the run, the more 'oomph' you'll lose in air pressure. You'll need a bigger pump from 25' than you would to deliver the same volume of air from a pump 3' from the tank. It will work though. I had a tank in my living room and ran an air line from the basement. Just be sure to have a check valve between the tank and air pump.

Personally, though, if your Rena is making much noise, I'd ask for a replacement now.

HTH,
Jim
