Rena Filstar XP2 for 50g?

I have heard too many recurring and similar problems with the Filstar series (impellers, leaking, low GPH. Probubly why for a name brand item the deals are so good on them right now as I have seen the XP4 new for a s little as $160. If you must get a Filstar try and get a deal on an FX4 as more is never too much and scalable for that new larger tank.

I've been very happy with a JBJ Reaction EFU 25 canister. Cost about $120, had it on my 75 for 2 months now, strong, silent and it has a UV built in.

Thank you all for the advice. I think I'm going to go with an XP2 and an AC70. I plan on getting a Quarantine Tank and the AC70 can be used for that if I need it. If I do ever get another tank I would end up using my current one as well so I would need to buy another filter anyway, I could get an XP4 then. I know there are going to be unexpected costs for setup in the next couple weeks so I'm trying to save some money.

I have heard too many recurring and ...

Enough said?

I own 2 XP3s one is over 2 years old the other over a year, both running 24/7 since I got em on my catfish tank

No leaks, no problems with impellers, and the GPH is fine, course I got em when Big Al's was dealing em out at $80 a pop.

Whether I would go the same route now or not is another question since they've gone up in price.

I tried one of the Marineland C-series and it was really nicely designed, but the one in particular I got leaked really bad. I'd maybe try em out again as I've read they fixed the leak problem.
