Rena XP3: What should I expect to hear?

Hmmm? An XP3 cannister filter rated for 165 gallon tanks isn't good enough for a 150 gallon tank?

Filter companies regularly overstate the capacity of their filters when running in "real world" situations. :irked:

Well...I guess that does make sense. I have an AquaClear 70 and the aforementioned Fluval 4 Plus in a 55g tank and sometimes it seems that they can barely keep up.

I'm hoping to just stock juveniles for now so I'll wait and see. When the time comes I'll get another one. *grumble grumble*

If you're planning on stocking fish w/ any kind of real bio-load you'll need to double up. Chk. my sig.

I learned that real quick and now I just look at the gph rating.

Surprise!!! They overstate those too. Measurements are taken on an m/t can. (no media - no resistance). "T"

Bought a Fluval FX5 today from an online store here in Canada. I'm going to put that in the 150 and move the new XP3 to the 55. Despite the lack of redundancy, that should be enough filtration for both tanks for a while...I hope!

I would also suggest something to circulate water as well, but a FX5 should be good.

I had one xp3 on my 90 gallon and it didn't seem to work all that well and it is no where near stocking capacity either. I added another one xp2 for bio filtration only (pot scrubbers) and together they work great.
