Just ordered a rena xp3 with a rena smart heater are there any tips or tricks or perhaps problems i should be aware of?

Haven't had any problems with mine (has been running for 3 months). I don't have the heater, but find that the filter does the job.

As for suggestions, you don't get a lot of media, so you'll want to supplement. I use AquaClear ceramic rings and extra foam pads -- if you search the threads you'll probably find other examples of what media people use.

I haven't had the heater, but I've had my two rena xp3s over a year with no problems. Just do some maintenance cleaning every once in a while like with other canisters and you should be fine.
