Rena XP4 is making SOOO much noise!!!

I got this filter a few days ago for my 90g. Supposedly it is a great filter.

Whatever.

It is making so much noise chirping and squeaking all day long. Sounds like air bubbles getting forced through something too small. Also, the motor has a pretty loud hum to it as well.

I did some troubleshooting - turned the filter off & let it sit; rocked it to get the air bubbles up; taped up the intake and return connections.

Is this NORMAL for these filters? Can anyone give me any other suggestions to shut this thing up or am I going to have to send it back?

Thanks.

i have an XP3 and i've never had any noise problems with it at all.

i might check the seal and see if air may be getting in that way.

My xp4 is extremely quiet, maybe the impellar is going bad in yours, you can buy them on ebay. Is it a brand new filter or used? You may want to try pulling the impellar, and magnet out, and putting it back in to reseat it, may work.

Yes it is brand new. I will recheck the seals again but I'm starting to lose hope. Maybe I will just send it back, which will leave me without a filter for a few days. Not too happy about this.

Sorry about the missent post.
I have an XP2 that was spiting air and was quite loud.
After checking witha rep from Planetrena.com, it was determined that the inlet neck was leaking. I never did find it but when I used electrical tape ane sealed it from below the water level to the top of the priming cap, it stoppped.
