Rena XP4 is making SOOO much noise!!!

After checking witha rep from Planetrena.com, it was determined that the inlet neck was leaking. I never did find it but when I used electrical tape ane sealed it from below the water level to the top of the priming cap, it stoppped.

I've had two xp2's that ran perfectly for years, then one started gurgling and burping. turns out my goldies had pushed their bubble disk under the intake and it was pulling air into the cannister. I moved the bubbler away from the intake (and anchored it down so the little brats can't move it again!) and it hasn't made a single sound since. My xp3 seems to be rather picky about how I re-connect the quick disconnect valve after cleaning. I have to push it firmly straight down, give it the slightest little wiggle, then one more straight down nudge while closing the latch. If I don't do it "just so", the cannister doesn't fill completely to the top with water and every 15 minutes or so it will dischrge a gush of air into the tank. When I get it right, it's perfect. Good luck-I love these filters, quirks and all!
 
Fully trouble shoot it via reading the manual and calling the company that makes it. if it doesnt solve the problem dont go putting a bandaid on it and taping the inlet to a brand new item.

what did you have filtering the tank before you received this? Put your old filter on and send it back, or if you dont have the old filter just call and ask for them to send you one before you return yours.
 
It really sounds like rena's have issues, also... It's wierd, cause before this whole thing started, I had never heard anything bad about fluval or rena...

I use renas on all of my tanks and have never had a problem. I guess anyone could get a lemon :)
 
I'm just saying... There are alot of people that are talking about their rena being great *except* ...
 
i have the xp3 and have no problem with it. in fact, i think it is awesome. However it sounds like the impeller or the little pipe piece that holds the impeller is bad. At my lfs, the pipe tube thing (which is ceramic) is ten or eleven bucks
