Replacing a Fan on an Aqualight

Ok, sounds like you need an 80mm fan then. :)

As long as the new fan is 38mm thick or less, you should be fine. If you cut the white wire with a pair of wire cutters, strip each wire so you've got a good 1/2" of copper exposed on each wire, and solder the wires to the terminals on the new fan, you'll be up and running in no time. If you don't want to mess with the electronics, you could cut the white wire, remove the old fan, cap the wires inside the white wire individually (to prevent any potential arcing between the two or anything near them) and purchase these two items: http://www.coolerguys.com/840556029977.html and http://www.coolerguys.com/840556026105.html That way, the power supply and fan are plug-and-play, meaning, you just bolt the fan into your fixture, plug in the power supply, and away you go. Just an idea for ya, in case you don't want to mess with the white power cable.

Either way works really... do you have a soldering iron? If so, you could make use of either connection type, based on whichever you'd rather work with. I myself might consider the wired type, merely because that way I don't have to add any wire if the white one turns out to not be long enough, but since its already connected to a fan in the fixture, it should be long enough to work with the one you linked too. :)

Ok, I know it has been 6 months, but my fan started working again. It is now making noise again, so I am thinking I will need to change it out.

I am looking at this fan:

Now when I open up the white wire coming off of the light itself, what should I expect to see...2 smaller wires intertwined? What colors would they be? Which wire would match the orange and the black wires on the fan? What if I open up larger white wire only to see that it is only 1 wire?

Sorry for all the questions.

I bought the fan in the previous post and ran into problems. The tornado fan has a red wire and a black wire. The wires I connected it to were both black. My friend (who does some elictrical work) said just to connect it and that he did not think it would matter (he did that over the phone with out seeing it).

Anyhow, I connected it and powered it up. I heard a pop, turned it off and the new fan started smoking. I think it is a goner.

So if I get a new fan, how should I proceed on this?

Thanks

I'm willing to bet your fixture is supplying 120vac to the fan, not 12vdc. You probably fried the tornado. You're lucky you didn't start a fire.
