So I inherited a used Fluval 205 from my brother (as his wife got him a brand new tank/filter setup for xmas), and his hosing was punctured in the move and was thrown away.

So I looked around online and in stores to find replacement hoses, and the only place I've found them they're about $20 PER hose. So that's $40 for some rubber tubing.

Can I just go to Home Depot and get 12mm (that's 1/2" right?) hosing for like $.50/foot? Do I need anything else to get them to work?

I am having the same issue. I found this website that is marginally cheaper and has almost everything else too.

Don't know about using a different hose material than Hagen makes. But I tried to find them cheaper. No luck there. Looks like the manufacturer has set their minimum posted price for all their parts.

Yes, sounds like they used eheim 12/16mm hosing, which is about 1/2". I remember a retailer site with a chart of all the filters they carry and they had common hose sizes for each filter. I really wished I bookmarked it.

Well, I found the Hagen ribbed tubing selling for .79/foot at Drs. Foster and Smith and I picked up 10 ft there. So I'll post here when I get it if it all works.

I'm looking for the same thing. I believe it has an ID of 1/2", but it needs a large enough OD so that it'll work with the rubber fittings for the inlet and outlet.
If you use the right size hose the rubber fittings arn't needed. I used eheim hoses on one of my fluval filters so i could fit an inline heater to it, i found the eheim hoses are a much better fit as well.
