Yeah, the 12mm hose I got from Fosters and Smith wasn't the "fluval" ribbed hosing, but just regular grey rubber hosing. But it didn't fit onto the intake/output valves on the canister, I had to cut off the little grey rubber couplers from my old hoses to get it all to work right.
But it's all up and running now. huzzah.
