i'm replacing my 2 5 ft x 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft tanks 1/4 inch thick glass on a double stand with
a single 6 x 2 x 2 ft tank which has 3/8 inch glass thickenss

which would be heavier?
the 6x2x2 with 3/4 water or the 2 5 x 1`.5 fts with water?

thanks..

I doubt anyone's gonna have that formula. the best method is to contact the manufacturers to get a weight spec (I'm sure they have it because they need to know for shipping costs) and then use the weight of water/gallon to figure the weight there. I know water is around 7-8lbs per gallon but am unsure the exact number. Kyle

not taking into account the weight of the glass the Larger tank 3/4 full will weigh less than the two smaller tanks.

again not taking into account the glass the larger one full will be about 100lbs heavyer than the two smaller tanks full.

Larger tank ~ 180 gal @ 8.33lbs/gal = ~ 1500lbs
one smaller ~ 85 gal @ 8.33lbs/gal = ~ 708 X 2 = 1416lbs

now if you find out the weight of the tanks just add it to the approx totals and get a close estimate of total weight.

According to boondocks http://boonedocks.net/fishtank/ftweb.php

a 5ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft empty tank with 1/4 glass weighs approx 90 lbs.

a 6 x 2 x 2ft empty tank with 3/8 glass weighs approx 230 lbs.

Tank weight + water weight- 5 x 1.5 x 1.5 = ~800 lbs
Tank weight + water weight- 6 x 2 x 2 = ~1700 lbs

thanks!!
