hey, i recently got an iguana and i'm looking for a forum about lizards like this one...if you know of any good ones pls post links for me...thanks guys

ok...i'm not sure if i should use the word adopting or rescueing, but i'm getting an iguana on friday who could use some tlc...i have been doing a lot of research and i'm pretty sure i'm ready for him...here's what i know about him, he is 2-3 years old, he has lost part of his tail and it is growing back all crooked...he is a bit less than 2' long... he hasn't been on any supplements and i'm not sure if he has the right kind of lighting, although i know he has a basking lamp. i'm looking for suggestions on getting him used to me and his new home. i'm also wondering if he will need any extra special care because he hasnt' been cared for properly....perhaps some vitamins to jumpstart him or something...when he gets here he'll be in a 3x3x4 cage which comes with his lamp and a ladder. i'm going to be adding a mister on top of his cage out of his reach...i dont' know what kind of subterate is necessary... mostly i guess i am just looking for suggestions and i want to make sure i am doing everything for him to get him as healthy and strong as possible..also, as far as i can tell with my zero reptile experience he doesn't seem to have anything seriously wrong with him other than he is a bit on the thin side and his tail having been dropped...

also, as far as feeding goes i think i have a pretty good understanding of what he'll need. i'm going to be getting him some squash, some different kinds of greens, and some parsnips...thanks for your help, btw moonstream i appreciate it.

Pictures will really help so we can see what kind of condition your iggy is in. I sadly lost my male iguana that I had for 14 years last winter to kidney failure. I raised him from an 8 inch baby to a 6 foot beast. Plan on build a much bigger cage in the future. They enjoy a lot of room.

As for diet I recommend a varied one of lots of healthy greens like spinach, kale, dandelion, violet, & hibiscus leaves, mustard and collared greens. Avoid lettuce! Grated carrots, squash and zucchini are also good. They enjoy some types of flowers like hibiscus, dandelion, geranium, viola, and pansies. You can offer fruit a couple times a week to the diet like grapes, strawberries and bananas. Sprinkle some vitamins and calcium on the food a few days a week. Good luck with your iguana!

Nice, looks to be a male. His condition doesn't look too bad either. I'd fatten him up with a good varied diet. Is that a heat rock in there? Get that out ASAP, they can burn lizard bellies. Wood chips aren't good for substrate either. Try butcher or newspaper for now. Because they are basking lizards, all their heat requirements should be from heat lamps/UVB lighting from above.
