At the Bottom, gilling rapidly.
Thanks for taking a look at this fella. He is four or five years old and approximately 8-9 inches long.

He was sold to me as a 1.5 inch "spotted sailfin" baby. I'm pretty sure he is an L001/L022 "Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus". I assume this, because his "spots" are actually "squiggly marks". As he's aged the squiggles have become less contrasted and more numerous. I have been trying to get a belly picture (where the pattern is still quite outstanding) but I have had bad luck catching him on the glass.

I hope that these mediocre photos will suffice to make a positive ID. I did some enhancement to make up for lack of flash but it made the pics a little grainy. Kinda ruined the colors a bit too. I apologize for that.

Also a correction on the common name would be appreciated as I want to refer to him as properly as I can. I think "spotted sailfin" is normally referring to a "Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps"... so does that make him a "squiggly sailfin"? :p: Or is he not considered a sailfin at all?

I appreciate your time, big thanks to this community.

This is the link to the possible ID.

Other facts about The Dude: When you pick him up he makes a noise like a frog. He can change colors in stripes on his body when he gets bothered. Has been caught swimming upsidedown eating flake food. He poops a lot. While these points probably lend little to the identification, they certainly are fun to mention!

:D :duh:

Thanks again
