"rescue" fish w/ gill worms. help!

no they're not anchor worms.

I today was his last day of API General Cure, with nearly no improvement.

I'll try the salt dip next.

I can't find potassium permanganate anywhere nearby.. any suggestions on where to look?
 
You can usually find it at a hardware store - it is a product used in water softeners. I think you'd be better off using salt or trying the Jungle product. Even Fluke Tabs might be better than playing with permanganate. (Do you know how much to put in a bath?)
 
Doing a google search I've come across a medication named Sera Tremazol (formerly Moneol) which is supposed to work on gill worms. But, I don't know if it's available in the US. All the sites I've found are European.

I also came across this site which lists lots of medications and what they treat. Search for gill worm on that page. It appears in multiple places.

'' Gill Worm"" is very common in cichlids.It may be caused from putting month to mouth together in fighting. (Like humans for example when we kiss, we may get AIDS) but back on fish. I would try a salt bath!

Ummmm.....please tell me this is meant to be a joke??

You do know you cannot get AIDS by kissing (unless both people have open, bloody sores in their mouth), right??!!
 
NickD: i dont know what it is, but i've tried going to that versaquatics page several times (i found the link on google a couple of days ago) and my browser crashes everytime try to open it.
 
I don't know what to say. Works fine for me. I use Firefox as my browser. Maybe you could try a different browser or try from a different computer.

While I might bet your life on that, I would refrain from using my own ... this question, posed to my doctor, brought the response, "Why risk it?"
