The sales guy said the only other person to ask about them was a lady with a 29 gallon. I think they are 8" red oscar and 10" tiger oscar. I put them in my 100 gallon where I have my little 5" tiger oscar. Is there any way for these guys to live happily together or is 100 g just way to small? The 100 gallon is 60" X 24" X 16".

The two oscar used to live together, the family moved. Petco had them in their freshwater plant tank with a giant pleco from the same family. They werent swimming at all in there and I felt bad for them.

I know a 55 gallon tank is recommended for one oscar alone is that because of their bio load solely or because they need a least that width and length to swim and turn in? Id like to keep them all but I will try and find homes for them on craigslist if necessary. Petco only had them a day so I hope they didnt get a chance to damage them permanently in that small tank.

My tank is filtered by a magnum 350 deluxe canister with the 2 bio wheels. Its rated for 100g and I also have a penguin 200 bio wheel rated for 55 gallons I think.

I also have a 40 gallon tank that I could put the cycled pengiun filter and some established gravel in and keep the baby oscar in that until i get a chance to rehome the big guys but like I said if theres any way I could keep all three in the 100 gallon that would be the best. I usually do 2 20% water changes while vaccuming the gravel a week because I read that oscar need perfect water so they dont get HITH.

Sorry for the long read.

Nice rescue. I don't know if they will work in that or not.

My little oscar flipped out when I put them in , I didnt really have a chance to acclimate them since I brought them home in a 5 gallon bucket and I was afraid they would use up all the oxygen I just floated the bucket and let it fill slowly then turned it sideways and they swam out. They sat on the bottom for about 20-30 minutes and now they are swimming around. My little oscar has calmed down but is still keeping his distance. Tried to feed them but think they need to get more comfortable before they worry about eating. I just hope the little one will be ok he has a few pots he can hide behind that the big ones cant get behind.

Sorry I couldnt figure out how to edit one of my previous posts. I totally forgot about aggression issues due to M/F ratio. How long could I keep my baby oscar in the 40 gallon? He just hit 4 inches but hes growing like a weed.

Im hoping that since these two oscars were housed together that they are male/female they dont have any battle scars that I can see.

So a pair of oscars and the baby oscar in the 40 gallon until how big? 6 inches? I dont want him to suffer at all or risk any stunting. Ive seen 20 long tanks suggested for 6" convicts so I hope he will be ok for a month or two in the 40?

Oh now I see the edit button. it must go away after a few minutes !

75g is the minimum for even one oscar.. not 55.

with 2 oscars and a red devil, you should have them in NO LESS THAN 150 gallons.. that red devil is going to get big and mean.

Its a red oscar, you might have misread. Im sure you are more knowledgeable on the tank size though, you get a lot of conflicting information out here on the net. Im glad theres a good forum like this to help clear things up.

So for 2 oscars , assuming they get along would my 100 gallon be big enough?
And whats the biggest size a baby oscar can be in a 3 foot long 40 gal tank? Hes 4 inches now.

I did a search for oscar fish on craigslist and only found one for sale,it comes with his 10g home and a pleco and shark. I wish I had the room to save all these oscars.

I guess that's a futile endeavor. My nearest Petsmart has about 20 oscars for sale, some of them already quite big. A nearby Walmart has also a dozen oscars (and at least as many pacus) on offer.

I notice a trend in all fish shops in my vicinity to larger fish. Petsmart changed their whole selection of cichlids (and other fish) to large ones. The only smaller one left for sale was a jewel cichlid.

Yeah I probably should have left them at petco but they looked so bad in that small plant tank. I was looking at them closer and I think they might have HITH so Ive been reading up on how to treat it.

I went ahead and posted them on craigslist and moved the baby oscar to the 40 gallon. Hopefully Someone will have the right size tank and want a bigger oscar. They are really great looking if I wasnt attached to the little one Id just return him and keep these two. I blame the feed me dance.

Hey there :) I don't mean to offend you and all. It's just that I think that your tank isn't big enough for the Oscars. Personally, I'd only put 1 in a 100g. But that's just my opinion. Good luck with whatever your going to do. :)

Here is my thought. I think that all 3 of them fish in a 100g is going to be ok for a little while if they are getting along. They will be in better conditions there then they would have been in that petco tank. I believe that as long as everyone is getting along and no serious aggression is happening, do it. If nothing else it gives you time to find someone or two a home.
