Researching Black Ghost Knifefish

They grow really freaking slow. My buddy has one in his 75. He got it when it was 2-3'', it's been with him for 2 years I believe and its about 13''. I don't know much about them so maybe my friend is doing something wrong, lol.
I was going to buy a BGK, and the bottom dwellers I have are clown loaches and a CAE, and the owner at my LFS said he would kill them. He also said that the BGK would attack and just not deffend and for me that wass a no. Now maybe he had a bad exsperiance with them, but i was just going by what I was told. Sry for not being clear enough.

Hmmm..I do realize our experiences vary but I have never seen the BGK's attacking other fish at all unless you count the small specimens that will fit their mouths anyway. I have one here myself with the loaches and never have I seen it attack the loaches. It can be seen parading the front to grab the food and simply go back to the powerheads where it tends to reside after it is satisfied. All it does is roam around the tank in different angles looking for food.
I have a BGK and the only thing that he has killed was a pleco that was under his tree trunk. i have 2 6" angels and a variety of other small fish in the tank. He is a great fish. I have had him for about 2.5 years and he is hand tamed. Yes, his mouth is huge of course he is 14" long. Mine is pretty tame if the fish stay out of his tree trunk. lol.
I would suggest just giving the BGK a good place to hide. even though they are blind they still can tell when there is light.

IVE HAD THEM IN THE PAST GET 30" AND THEY ARE FAST GROWERS NOT FOR SMALL TANKS OR SMALLER FISH THEY WILL CONSUME ANY FISH THEY CAN .... THEY ARE NOCTURNAL AND HUNT AT NIGHT ....... BUT ARE A COOL FISH IF YOU HAVE A "LARGE" TANK
I've had mine for 2 years, from 4" to @ 11". Fairly peaceful, although he defends himself when tired of the RB Snooks chasing him. He's lived with emerald cories the entire time and never bothered them; when around 8" he ate a couple of red-eye tetras. Even in the 125g, I don't think he'll get up to or over 20"; they are very slow growing, and "in the wild" they are in their natural habitat; survival of the strongest/biggest, so to speak. I love mine. And never bothers my African Brown Knife.
I have had my bgk for just over a year now, it's around 8" long, never has bothered any of my other fish in my 135 gal tank. I"ve got 6 cory cats, 3 clown loaches, two long finned rosy barbs, golden algee eater and several large fish including oscars and a clown knife and tire track eel. He/she pretty much stays in the back bottom of the tank searching for food on the sand between the rocks. Very peaceful and somewhat shy. As I've said before I seem to have a rare case of peace loving fish in that tank, but again my luck could change at any time so I just enjoy their good nature for now and hope for the best in times to come
