are you sure you had a ghost knife? i'm pretty sure they rarely reach 24" in the wild, let alone in aquaria. maybe you had a different knife species?

You didn't specify what bottom feeders would be killed. IMO, I doubt it when it comes to certain species. Without specifying, then this is not any more helpful at all. I have never seen this attitude in my BGK nor from others I know who have them. True that it can eat small fish but kill big fish who may be able to retaliate well?
I have a BGK and the only thing that he has killed was a pleco that was under his tree trunk. i have 2 6" angels and a variety of other small fish in the tank. He is a great fish. I have had him for about 2.5 years and he is hand tamed. Yes, his mouth is huge of course he is 14" long. Mine is pretty tame if the fish stay out of his tree trunk. lol.
I would suggest just giving the BGK a good place to hide. even though they are blind they still can tell when there is light.
