I've been doing a little thinking. Dangerous I know. I still want fish with some size. I'm going to look into cichlids. They have the colors my wife likes and can get to pretty good size.

Nuts to cichlids. Get 2-3 northern longear sunfish. 3-5", active, hardy, gorgeous- what's not to like?

Discus and angels are cichlids but if you want bright colours without having discus you should look into lake malawi cichlids.
