so i packed up the warmouths that i Trapped and the few other suf fish hybrid and put them back in a bucket took them back to their waterin hole, i added some water to the cycled tank water i had them in over night and slowly let them go by tipping the bucket under a shallow fallen branch and opened the bucket lide,. the waited a bit and swam back to native waters.
i decided not to look for a bigger fish or what to do about a native tank now that the Law is clear to me~ i did keep what i cld and to me they are bait to a bigger fish that i may catch on rod and reel in the future. but if i do find a water scorpian ill need small food so lets see if they might breed.

You returned fish to the wild? :eek:

It would have been better to put the fish down than to return them to the wild. Not a good idea at all!
 
He caught them in the wild, originally. They are warmouths and sunfish that he had caught in a trap a couple of days ago, so no worries. He returned them due to laws that prohibited him from keeping them legally.

If it's not a gamefish in NC it's legal to net trap and keep.

This does not include sturgeons or endangered species.

This would include fish like channel catfish, gambusia, freshwater eel, threadfin shad, central stonerollers, sawcheek darter and carp.

I catch minnows, darters, sculpins, gambusia, and such with nets and traps.

Catfish in NC are not gamefish and yes juvenile catfish may be netted and trapped.

If you buy gamefish from a hatchery or catch them on hook and line then yes you can keep them.

I do.

A listing of gamefish is found in the fishing regulations.
