Has anyone used this product? I have heard good things about it. What have your experiences been with this? Do i have to add other supplements with this? It seems to cover most of them.

Not worth the money... regular water changes with a quality salt mix will provide all the trace elements needed. Calcium and alkalinity can more effectively and inexpensively be dosed individually (as test results show they are needed). Trust me... every sw noob thinks they want to help coralline algae grow faster, then 6 - 8 months into it they realize that coralline algae is not all they thought it was cracked up to be.

darn...i just spent $30 on it. I heard from some pet stores that this was very good and had all the calcium added plus other benifits.

No worries... just a gimic-ish product that is entirely overpriced for what it does. Not to make you feel worse, but a 16 oz bottle of that stuff is on sale at Drs. F&S for < $12 right now... that looks like a 16 oz bottle you have. Ouch!

If you just keep an eye on your calcium and alkalinity levels and dose each individually as needed, you'll end up with more coralline algae than you ever wished for. The back and one side of our tank has been completely covered in it ever since month 2 and I find myself scraping it off one end, the front of the display tank, and the front of the refugium on almost a weekly basis.

If you want to save money on a calcium / alkalinity additives, check into some of the DIY 2-part solution recipes available on the web (not really a part of your original post, but who doesn't want to save $$$). While buying reef oriented commercial dry powders is cheaper than dosing PurpleUp (or any other liquid product), the DIY 2-part solutions can be even cheaper yet. The only catch is some of the DIY recipe ingredients are only readily available in larger quantities, so the initial expense can seem a bit high. But, it can be enough to last a year or more easily. Here's an example of a DIY 2-part solution:

thanks for the info. It wont hurt now that i bought it putting it in. I might as well use it.

i agree with fsn here...there is never any substitute to regular water changes for a marine system...there are so many chemicals that people can buy these and god knows what else it is doing inside the tank as we cannot test for probably 99% of the additives contents...

i opened it and put it in the first day i got it so i can not return it. Well i definatly learned something. Also i will come here before i buy products to ask opinions. I will finish this batch and then use alternatives for iodine, calcium, stronium etc... thanks for your opinions.
