Rid-Ich not working

why not? salt can't hurt. if anything, the meds are unnecessary. I just add the meds to get instant treatment while the salt concentration build up. Then I keep going to prevent creating med-resistant parasites.

My original recommendation in this thread was to use just heat and salt. But it's unnecessary to use both.

it's necessary to use heat and salt. Without the heat, it'll take longer to treat and be more stressful on the fish.

The meds are a bonus, but ridich is gentle and can't hurt, imo. It's your call whether to use it. I do, in case there's a salt-resistant parasite, or heat resistant parasite. I attack from all angles and it always works.

It's ultimately up to you, or anyone, I'm just posting what works, all the time, for me.

What I meant was between salt/heat vs. meds... not heat vs. salt. I just realized that what I wrote was a little unclear

The theory on the salt is that it increases the slime coat on the fish and makes them somewhat more resistant to ich attaching to the skin. As previously stated, the heat shortens the ich life cycle, which speeds everything up. Note that the ONLY time the ich is vulnerable is during the short time when it is free-swimming (I'm told this happens at first light in the morning). Other ways to combat ich: diatom filter - sucks them up when they're swimming; raise the heat even more (approaching 90 degrees), which is supposed to kill ich. Raise (or lower) temperatures over a few days to avoid (additional) stress. Best to treat for about 14 days to ensure you don't suffer a relapse.

i tried rid ich and it didn't work. but i was also in the middle of a PH crash, so that might have something to do with it.

So I got the temp at 86*, added a bitmore salt to the tank. Im going to leave it for a couple days, then do a 40% water change and add more salt to the tank. Hopefully this will work. My EBJD is covered with ich, it's bad. So Im hoping the salt/heat will work with getting rid of the parasite.
