RIP, little blue betta

my condolences, DP. losing a fish is like losing a family member.

on a lighter note:

you want one of my females? she won't play nice with the other girls in the sorrority tank, lol.

Keep wire cutters handy incase of it happening again. Cut the coconut next time and the fish will likely live.
Sorry to here about your betta getting tore up while pulling it from coconut shell.
Is stress coat considered as a lube for ripping fish out of holes?

You could try covering the holes on the inside with some mesh/nylon. That shouldn't be too visible, and would prevent any fish from trying that route in. Just a thought....

Sorry about your betta, though. :(

Thanks again everyone. I'm not getting any more girls because the "sorority" between bettas is very delicate. I have lost 2-3 females because of their low rank in the group. They were never bullied, they would just sit in one spot and occasionally eat, and never grow.

No thanks, my big red girl can be moody enough sometimes, I don't want to know what would happen with 2 of them

I figured the stress coat would be a good lubricant for getting her out, considering it's slimy nature and the soothing affects on damaged skin. I don't think I did much more damage. Her fins were almost gone, and when I picked up the coconut to get her out, many scales fell out of it. She was still trying to push her way in when I got there.
