So maybe I am being paranoid or something but I am setting up an RO unit and am going to buy a dedicated trash can for the water. Is there a particular plastic/rubber I should avoid buying?

Thanks,
Cathy

just get a rubbermaid garbage can. the bigger the better.

make sure you aerate the water inside all the time.

IMO... I would try and get one "food grade." Anything with a recycle number on the bottom of greater than 2 is made with recycled materials and can leach chemicals. In general, containers that are red, blue, and grey are recycled. It may not harm anything, but what if...? White is a good color if you can find one. Try a local food manufacturer and see if they have one that has held food ingredients.

Some plastics do leach out other stuff. Some seem to leave a white plastic scum on the surface if you let them sit.

Looking at the recycle number is a good idea!

I wonder what kinds of food businesses get materials in big drums? That might be a good place to get a recycled one.
