RO/DI output

If you are that concerned why not add another membrane unit your current unit (ie the waste water goes through a 2nd membrane), this will reduce the waste quite a bit.

30 Gallons? Your worried about 30 Gallons in a month (120G-160G waste water)? I do 30G a WEEK on my 75G/29G tanks.

LOL - perhaps you are right, it isn't that much H2O or $$. Nevertheless, I still feel it will be a waste of water if the brine:huh: What kind of project can in conceive of to fully utilize this water? :p:

On the bright side, at least I know my current unit is working pretty well. :nilly: Now that is a revelation. :bowing:
mostly goes down the drain. C'est La Vive.

Do you really change your water at that rate and volume? Is you bio load especially heavy? Do u house a lot of delicate species?

Just curious. Maybe I should be doing it more often?

Edit: Oh ya, there is such thing as 0 Waste Water RO/DI units out there.

Really? I'm intrigued. Please feel free to direct me to a resource for for further investigation.

Cheers, Keith

Indeed, I may. Unfortunately, I am a novice when it comes to this RO/DI unit and the units in general. An area, in which I must now conduct immediate additional research. ;)

I'll try and get a schematic drawing of how it's done.

ive heard of people using it for freshwater water changes, it seems to me that its not that bad. if you live in the boston area our water is pretty soft i dont think it makes that much of a difference.

the way im thinking of the ro wastewater is if you took 4 gallons of water, that has been through the first stage (which i thought was the RO stage) which doesnt produce any waste then let a quarter of it evaporate then use it, that doesnt seem very bad at all. on the other hand if you live out in springfield or west ma ( i went to school in amherst) the water seems crazy hard out there. you might not want to in that case

I used it for the same as the above, myself. Since my FW is AWOL, I just use it to water a nearby tree that really seems to appreciate it.

Oh ya, one more complete system

And yes, I really do change out that much water.. too many years of over compesating for a under rated skimmer and I think I just have OCD about it. I have tried to reduce my water change amounts but it is a hard habit for me to break.

You must spend a lot of money on Salt mixes. :raspberry:

Thanks for the links. I'll be sure to follow-up with what approach I take. Like I said, now I see my current unit is not working as bad as I thought.

I also hate having and extra 55 gal drum of H20 in the way.

Thanks Again,
