RO/DI question

I've decided to go and get an RO/DI system. I really have no experience with this and all the information I have so far is from online or through my LFS.

Apparently, the system has slow output? How do people do significant water changes (~40gals) with this sort of system?

Well, for large water changes, what i do is a few days before i am due a water change is i fill a large 50 odd gallon rubber maid container, add my measured salt, put in a heater and a powerhead and leave to mix and balance out for 48 hours prior to water change...

This way, i always have a full tub of saltwater mixed up...I also have a seperate container for just RO water for tank top ups..

You just have to do some forward planning to get your water produced in good time..

I always have a storage container full of my RO water. I place a heater and a pump in the Rubbermaid container to keep the water at the same temp as the tanks water and circulating so it doesn’t go bad. Then I mix the salt in with it the night before a water change is due this way if you need any water before the water change for topping off your not adding saltwater back in since evaporation is only the water not the salt.

Thanks for the ideas. So I guess there aren't any small systems that can produce more output in a shorter amount of time?

About every 3 days or so I have to add water due to evaporation. I could easily store this amount of water, for I never have to add much. The water changes are a different story. I'm just trying to think where I would store a 40gal container relatively close to the tank, which is right in my living room (my largest one). I'm also getting a pump to help with the water changes after everything's mixed and settled. I guess I could get a long hose for the pump? If so, I'd be able to store the large container in another room.

Always new things to think about with this hobby....

i have 2 of those wrapping paper storage containers that Rubbermaid makes. Have them connected together and they store about 20 gallons of water. Also they have those small storage containers for like clothes and stuff at wal-mart that hold something like 45 gallons. Could check that out.
