RO or RO/DI system

Im on the search for a decent RO or RO/DI system for around $200 or so. Anyone have any recommendations? Looking for the most GPD i can get out of it but hopefully a somewhat quality system, any thoughts?
 
You have this posted in FRESHWATER. You actually don’t want to use RO/DI water for a freshwater tank unless you use it just to remove chlorine….mix the waste water back with the RO/DI water…which I think is rather foolish…but I know people who do it. For freshwater tanks you want all those goodies that are in regular tap water, minus the chlorine.

FYI, $200 would buy you a pretty nice setup. I'd either look on ebay or Air, water and ice website.
 
are you starting a really high tech planted? or maybe a discus tank? because otherwise RODI for fw isnt really worth it, unless you have extremely hard water in which case you might as well go with just the RO because extra membranes will just get clogged up quickly and your wastewater will be very hard

I have to disagree with this statement, it all depends on your water quality at the tap. If you need to manipulate PH and have hard water, RO is the only way to go. As another has siad, if your going to keep Discus, it may be a neccesity.
 
Wont have a high tech setup, pretty low tech really. Im not the only one using it, and it would be used for fresh and a brackish tank, i just want the clean water. Wont have discus but ill have blue rams
 
I used Kent also from foster smith , worked very well. I used to use it on my saltwater setups and when I went to freshwater I used it for a while thinking that it would be good but when I had to spend so much money on R/O RIGHT to add everything back to the water I switched to tap and Prime . My tanks have float valves that fill the tank, I removed the membranes and still use the pre-filters with sediment and charcoal block . Water changes are a breeze.
 
I bought one of these and love it. The seller has many more different types of units as well. I can tell you one thing, there customer service is top notch, and they promptly answer all your questions. I get a TDS of 2-3 ppm out of the membrane and 0 TDS out of the DI (I have the ice maker adapter kit so I can output drinking water before it hits the DI stage).
