are they the same, whats the difference. i just got 5 gallons of distilled water, if i cant use it for my tank ill just drink it no big deal. 1$ a gallon.
distilled water is just boiled water. Not sure if it removed the TDS (total disolved solids)or not.
RO water uses a microfiltration membrane to remove all impurities.. and lowering tds considerably.
DI de ionizes the water, removing ionized particles on a molecular level.
I went with the R/O and added DI later. cost me about 200 bucks.. or you could buy 200 gal of distilled water..
does your meijer have the "bottle your own" water dispensers? this is R/O filtered tap water.. I would check it for chlorine before I used it in an aquarium though.. I think it is also run through a UV sterilizer too.. Check it out before you rely on it..
Many pet shops will sell you RO water. Just to clarify, distilled water has not just been brought to boiling, it has actually been converted to water vapor (leaving all or nearly all TDS behind) then condensed and recollected. I believe it is identical to RO or DI water with regards to TDS content, but don't take my word for it.
I think the consensus is RO/DI is superior to distilled. Possibly because of copper being used in the process. copper in a reef or with inverts is bad.
is just one thread. If you do just a search on the marine section for "distilled" and show posts, there are a lot more threads out there that support the viewpoint of going for ro/di water is the best choice
I would think it would ultimately be cheaper if you found an LFS that sold RO water. Distilled is usually more expensive in a grocery store. I get my saltwater from my LFS and get 5gal or so of fresh topoff at the same time. If I need topoff in between visits I get it from a despenser kiosk down the road and so far have not had a problem but have been looking into RO/DI units.
We just boiled our water ,for our tank ,didnt want to piggy back 90gl lol
I wouldnt even drink bottled water ,i boil , but we just got a water treatment system for drinking water .
We are going to get a RO/DI as soon as i can choose which one lol
