I recently changed my storage and handling of water. Previously I've used plastic 1 gallon water bottles, and have stored water for a few weeks without a problem. To consolidate I switched to a Rubbermaid "Brute" trash can and a Blitz brand "5 gal. kerosene" container for transport. The gray brute cans are labeled as suitable for food storage, and I emailed Blitz, and their response was that the kerosene containers are the same material as their water storage containers. Naturally neither one was used prior. With this info, I felt safe in my choices. Today I performed a water change and noticed an odor, sort of acetone. The fish aren't showing symptoms of distress (noticed the odor late in the refill) but I am.

What do you use if you handle RO or distilled water?

i just use the big water bottles the ones made for water coolers those and the huge 55 gallon plastic drums.
