Roan's Art Gallery

Very nice detail, textures, depth and shadows Roan. Colors are gorgeous too! Almost feels like you could reach out and touch the animals. Very nice lighting on Casey. My favorite though, is the store front. I like rustic. Beautiful work all. I was surprised to find the mediums were pastels and pencils. I would swear to oils in all except for the store front, which looks like watercolor.

Sioux Style Possibles (Tipi) Bag (19x24")

Based on an 1875 Sioux bag that I found on an auction site.
The front is lane stitched (“lazy” stitch) and contains over 32,000 beads. Each lane (horizontal strip) took 2½-3 hours to sew. There are 13 lanes and therefore the beading on the front of the bag took about 36 hours to sew.

The beadwork on the sides and top of the bag were done on my beadloom instead of being hand-stitched. The hide is cow, as buffalo – which is what all authentic possibles bags are made of – is rather dear to the purse. The cones are tin with red-dyed horsehair drops and the entire bag is stitched with artificial sinew.

These bags are always done in pairs, so I need to do another one :)

Thanks Pl*co! I've a few problems with "Casey", but I got her eyes perfectly and I'm very proud of that.
I've done a few watercolors, but not very well :)
I used to do oils when I was a teenager, but took up pastels when I started painting again because they are safer around kids.

I've another of the Stark Store that I'll post for you in a bit :)

Group photo of a few things I made.

The belt at the front is a replica of the Iroquois belt created to mark the treaty between the British and the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Six Nations tribes. The treaty was drawn up on Nov 5, 1768 and signed by the Six Nations and the British at Fort Stanwix. Sir William Johnson signed on behalf of the British. The boxes at each end represent the governments; Iroquois and British. The line connecting them is the treaty line.

The box is a small smudging kit.

The drums are deer rawhide, painted with hide glue paint, and based on authentic designs that I found in some museums.

I have a LOT of drums hanging on my walls at home here. Some are 30" in diameter and are made from many different types of rawhide: buffalo, elk, deer and moose. Some are painted with Celtic designs instead of Native American ones.

I'll try and take a picture of a few and post them. I love making drums!

Blah, I think you guys have had enough for today!

Thank you VERY much for letting me do this.

Btw, I didn't start painting until 1999 and only painted for two years -- until 2001 when my son was born. Before that I hadn't done anything since 1984 and that was just the odd oil painting and some pencil and ink work. So, I'm really an amateur at this stuff. I really hope to get good enough to make it full time.

Wow Roan!
You have talent!

The "Star Birth" has spooked me somewhat. There are photos that show zoomed in portions of the photo near where the large star is in the middle. In that area ghostly images show up. Or course they aren't ghosts, but even so, they look like ghosts...
