This is great, this is! Here we are, strangers from across the country, across the globe in my case, sharing the passion that we have for aquariums. I feel like I have a rapport with you all already. :D

Now, onto my question. I am an experienced goldfish keeper. I've had way too many goldfish. Goldfish leave a bad taste in my mouth. I want to focus on something marine, but not something as difficult to upkeep as a reef setup. Rock pools would do nicely. The only trouble is, there's virtually no information on the internet on the topic. Any help would be MUCH appreciated. :D

Thanks!

Oh, and hello! I am NonSequitur, a new member

Hello, NonSequitur! Welcome to AC!

Sounds deceptively simple. What I think you are looking for is called a "fish-only with live rock" (FOWLR) setup. With a system like that, you can also keep mobile invertebrates like snails, shrimp and stars. It's actually quite common. Or am I missing something in your definition of a rock pool?

Yes i'm not quite sure what a rock pool is. I'll assume its a Fish Only With Live Rock aquarium. If so there is millions of pages on marine fish. Live Rock, etc.

G'day, mate! Greetings from Oz! :dance Thanks for having me! I am honored!

Fish in rock pools are notoriusly difficult to come by. I'm basically looking for a more invertebrae than fish setup. I don't want that many live rocks either, basically a rock shelf at the back of the aquarium (to hide all the thingies) to simulate an outcropping of rock. A question, are invertebrates notoriously difficult to upkeep? The usual you know, crabs, shrimp, creatures that are available to found in rockpools and so on.

What's the basic setup we're talking about here? Size of tank, et cetra? Do I need a big tank to accomadate?

Thanks!

Any particular ones that you wonderful people here at AC advise on?

Another question, what is an LSF?

Do you mean LFS? If so, that's an acronym for Local Fish Store. Woohoo, did I finally answer a question in the marine section?

G'day! Yeah, I think that's what I meant. Thanks!

G'day back at ya'.

A lot of invertebrates, especially those from tidepools (same as rockpools?) are fairly easy to keep. A lot depends on the individual species, though. There are companies here in the US that specialize in things like that, but I have no idea where you would look Down Under.

I'd think a tank about 200 liters or so, with a pump or two giving a total of 3000-4000 lph circulation, with some kind of wavemaker (SCWD or SeaSwirl maybe) to generate surge, and maybe 20 kilos of live rock for decor and biofiltration would be a good start.

Heh. Thanks! :D G'day!

Ah. Excellent! Would you be so kind and inclined to post the links to those American-based sites? I'm positive the general formulae is used for both hemispheres :D.

What are the hardier species? Will one species engage in territorial conflicts with those from other species? Do rock pool inhabitants require maximum space per water volume? Other good questions.... Do you know of sites that specifically cater to rock pool aquariums?

Whoa mate, that flew over my head. I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. How long and wide is 200 ltrs in cms or ms or feet? What's the basic measurement of that? Bigger is better in my opinion, so I want something as big as possible. Where would one find a wavemaker?

Is live rock notoriously difficult to upkeep? Where can one procure it?
