I recently began treating my 29 gal hex with rock salt for ick because one of my mollies was covered in it. I was wondering if the rock salt will effect my freshwater snails. I know that land snails don't like it much haha but I'm not exactly sure about water snails

I currently have a Chinese mystery snail that I found in a local lake. I noticed that it just has babies and I saw some of the shells empty along the bottom after I treated the tank. It could be that my flying foxs may have eaten them or that they just didn't make it

Viviparus sp. What is the temperature? What do you feed them? What other fish do you have? I find it unlikely of the flying foxes to attack the snails. They could have died of starvation or unfavorable water conditions especially temperature. These snails are very sensitive.

I always do half the recommended amount if I have any bottom dwellers and slowly increase over 2-3 days. They should be fine, if any start to act funny, you can do small water changes. Did you also increase the heat?
Either way, Molly fish really do best in brackish water.

Good to know about the mollys. Maybe that's why they keep getting ick. I did increase the temp and I know these snails need a bit cooler water unless they're breeding so that could have been the problem. My light probably increased the temperature even more. These snails are picky eaters. I can't get them to eat anything but algae. I've tried to feed them blanched broccoli, peas, and algae wafers. The offspring of the wild ones I found started to like the broccoli after a while. I lowered the temp and I've got one snaily survivor so it had to be the temp. I didn't think to go more gradual with the adding of the salt because of my bottom feeders. I'll remember that for future instances. Thanx!
