I'm not sure this is the right place for this but here goes:

I have some rocks that came from the ocean that i want to use to make a cave and i was wondering if it is safe to use them in one of my freshwater tanks.

I'm only wondering because of the salt.. will it affect anything? I'm not thinking it will, because salt is sometimes used in fw aquariums for other reasons.

Maybe this is a stupid thread, but i am just looking for opinions/experiences.

Thanks for looking!!

Katelyn:)

salt is not really the big issue.

what the rocks are composed of as many of the rocks are comprised of deposits which include calcium.

If you're worried about salt, you can give them a vinegar bath. Just make sure you clean them really well afterwards.

I use them all the time. I just boil the rocks, and clean them really good, and they have no ill effect on my tanks. Plus the blue/black/grey colors look soo great in the tank compared to normal rocks in the back yard. Also the smoothness is awesome too!
