I have a standard 55g long tank. It's a Malawi mix tank so I have a ton of stones and slate rock... my question is this:

How much can the bottom glass support?

Unfortunately I didn't hear about using egg crate or light fixture grid (wrong name) under it until after I had it all setup. I did spread everything out quite a bit and used 3 large pieces of slate as the base for building it up. Am I gonna blow out the bottom?

Oh, how I don't want to take everything out.

Are your rocks on top of substrate like sand or gravel? That would help prevent any pressure points from one point of a rock bearing down on the glass. As long as there's some sort of buffer in there, I think you'll be ok.

The only parts where there is rock on the glass are the big pieces of slate that are the base for the rest of them, then there are a few stones that might be through to the glass, other wise it is all on sand.

Any idea of the total pounds of stone you have in there...or a pic of it?

If your tank has support over the whole base, not just edges, then you need not worry too much.

I will post pics soon, but I would say about 100lbs of stone and slate.

You should be fine. Just like everyone has said, as long as your rocks are evenly distributed. Ive got a little over 200 lbs in my 125. Thats not including 100lbs of gravel and aragonite!

Nice video coler!..i used to have a ton of slate about 7 to 8 in long and up to 3in thick in my 75 gallon and never had a problem, even with pebble(gravel) substrate!
