I have a 29g with Jungle Val, Amazon and chain swords, lots of crypts and N.Japonica mainly. So I was wondering, since these all tend to be heavy-rooted plants, should I dose, or just stick to root tabs?

I also have CO2

yep, both.

Even though they're both just Flourish? OK then.

But say I can only afford one at the moment, which should I go with first? In other words, which will have more effect?

depends on the plant.

no...not ieven though they are both flourish....you should dose macros NPK...Flouish alone is a trace mixture...so you are dosing traces at the roots, and traces in the water column....plants will not do well with an overdose of traces and no macronutrients.

Oh, well then add the ferts in the water column. I don’t remember if you are adding co2? If not add flourish excel. If you can’t afford all this right now read the sticky on ferts. Go find all the ingredients. Epson salt, nusalt, stump remover, fleet enema etc. It is really the cheapest way and it lasts along time. If you follow that method you will need to add carbon and iron somehow. You will also need to be careful.

Find out who your water company is and then find out what is actually in the water. I already have magnesium and calcium in the water for instance so I don’t add those things at water changes.

OK, I got just plain Flourish (liquid) for now since they didn't have anything else, but I'll see if they can get in some macros as well.

Cheers

Florish and Florish excel along with root tabs would be a great start for your plants.

flourish = micros
flourish excel= carbon source
flourish root tabs=micros

unless you want a bunch of thread/hari algae and stunted growth, I would not dose this!

You must dose NPK...period. You cannot o/d on micros, have a little carbon, and think you will grow plants, unless algae is the plant you want to grow....

If you are going to dose the column, then do your excel, flourish and NO3, PO4 and K+...you can buy them dry cheaply www.gregwatson.com and dose them dry right in the tank....

If you are going low tech and you aren't dosing ferts so to speak...then only dose micros one way...either use Flourish, OR rootabs..along with the excel.....Not both if you are not planning on dosing Macors <NPK>
