About 2 years ago I tore down my tank because of turf algae (from the division Rhytophyta). I had about 8+ swords (Echinodorus) back then but now have over 20+ of 7 different species. Now the problem....
My gravel is about 4inches deep. From experience swords need lots of food via their roots. I put in root tabs every 4-6 months, but now the roots are too thick. I can no longer put tabs into the gravel near the plants. Tried to take out one of the bigger plants to trim the roots but I think the root-ball is bigger then a baseball in size and REALLY stuck in the gravel.
Question...
Do I need to trim the roots?? If so how??..yank/dig the plant out?? My swords are huge!!
