Roulette has nearly the worst odds of winning in the entire casino.
I have tried to play and even just bet on red or black, and still lost.
I have seen LOTS of $$$ lost on the roulette table.
Personally, I'll stick to craps.
Mini baccaret (sp?) has the best odds for table games BTW.

You playing with money or bullets?
If the later, I suggest allowing your opponent to go first at every opportunity.
If you're playing with money, either play black/red or plop chips in the center of numbers to get (nearly) fair odds. The more numbers you cover with a chip, the more the house advantage.
How does one play roulette "well"? Its complete chance every time, I don't see the skill there...
You're right - but there are lots of opportunities to add to the house advantage by placing bets whose odds do not come close to matching the risk. You last longer if you avoid the stupid bets. This also applies to craps.
