after a very long drama( http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2270458#post2270458 ) I have come to yet another possibility... poisoning...

Has anyone used the rubber couplings from any of the home improvement stores for piping.

I used one of the smaller ones to replace my hook up on my python and have been running into many tank problems.

I had used this before and did not have a problem.. but this time it may be different.

Thanks for any responses...

It does have a bit of a rubber smell but same as the last one before.

Rubber,, nope
PVC or polyethelene(RO/DI)
is what I use most of the time

I don't think you can use those on supply water.

I believe those type fittings are more commonly used on the waste side of the line(grey water)
in essence they could be part of the problem.

They are not used for water supply but for other liquid/air systems etc. Rubber is a petroleum based product and not the best choice for aquarium use.

The only time I have seen that material used in the home is on washing-machine drain lines or black ABS waste water pipes.

However if your saying it comes with the Python from the manufacturer for use as a universal adapter, then I would think that they would have certified that particular item safe for use with fish.

This was not provided by the manufacturer. I am currently in the process of taking the tank apart and cleaning everything.. hopefully that will solve my problem. I really can't find anything conclusive though on if this is the cause... any help would be greatly appreciated.. would really like to have an answer.

I wiped everything down but one question... How reliable is carbon at removing anything that may have been missed?
