Rubbernose Pleco Tail Problem

I am the one who has been doing topical application for few decades. I know it works as it has worked for me even on local fish I cathced be it f/w or s/w..

Ph of 6ish does not tell me much. So all I know, it could 6.0 today. Regular monitoring is critical when deciding what to do.

All I am saying is I am not convinced of any possible disease yet? Maybe it could be something fish can recover on its own.
Unless I missed, I have not read that it is getting any worse.

Just concerned that fish may be at risk from possible unnecessary actions as I can not tell anything from pic.

But again, keeper can view and determine if action is needed better than I can..

Ok, Ph is 6.6 is this such a big difference? Personally I think waiting would be a more risky.

All my lfs had was some Pimafix and Quick Cure. Pimafix was applied to the tail and Quick Cure to tank.

Many Pleco experts advise never to use formalin with Plecs and Catfish Some only advise it's use at 1/2 dose if any. Quick Cure is formalin and malachite green. Quick Cure can be useful for parasites and some fungus - but not for bacterial infections that I'm aware of.

My opinion is that using Quick Cure is a big mistake in this case as odds are it will hurt more than help.

Pimafix in the tank is a step or two above useless for this IMO, but will most likely not hurt. If those are the only meds you can get, I'd do water changes to get most of that QC out of the tank and then dose the tank with Pimafix while keeping the water in pristine condition - meaning 25%-50% water changes every 48 hours.

6.6 is fine. My concern was and is whenever infection occurs if fish was exposed to low low pH or extreme condition? Medical history is important, if not more than actual symptoms, aspect in determining course of action

Your choice of med would not have been mine but Hope all goes well.!

I never had problem 15% formaldehyde even with malachite green on PLECO but would be careful on scaless cats/fish (pictus, etc) and never on fish with open wounds.

I believe QC has 35-37% formaldehyde.

Let's Go Baltimore!!!

The tail seemed to be getting better. Today was the 3rd day of adding Pimafix and QC. Yet my pleco pasted while being out of the tank during treatment for lass than 20 seconds. The main tank seems to be doing fine besides my lemons which never come to the surface to eat, but that could be a whole new issue all together. Thanks for all the help everyone.
