Rule for stocking shrimp

I have my dozen or so yellow dwarf shrimp in a 10 gallon, and I am so happy I decided not to use the 6 gallon I had as originally planned. I'm sorry I didn't set up a 20 gallon for them. I had no idea shrimp could be so entertaining! Good luck!

How much water do you have in your shrimp-only tanks?
I am still a bit scared about their ability to escape and dry themselves out.

Am I going to be save if I set my water level to like 2 inches below the tank height? I'm also not sure about what to do with heater cord and air tube, which could also be used as a escape path.

i hate fish rules.....

Most like the ''1 inch of fish per gallon' rule is misleading, but rules like this are OK. Shrimp are different as the can climb up and so dont need as much legnth to swim as fish.
Without people telling me, I would have only put 15 shrimp in a ten gallon. Now I know I can have 100 LOL

Yeah seriously... LOL. I too was wondering if am I going to be overstocked having 10 (cherry!) shrimps in a 10g...

I'm not sure if I will try 100 in 10g tank but at least now I know their bioload is much less than fishes of similar sizes.

Haha unfortunately I am starting with 10 at 0.5 inches. I think I am very far away from 100 shrimps. :D

Only a week or two away!:D

It seems like every time I give one away or use it for food, two more takes it's place! Up until yesterday all my 10's were in use. Now I can finally move them! I would guess that I easily have 150 or more in a 5.5 Needless to say, w/c, w/c, w/c! Worse than rabbit or mice :cry:

I would like to hear more about this issue; my cherry shrimp are in a small tank with a tight-fitting lid, so there is no danger;

but do they really climb out of the water? - none of mine have shown any interest in doing it!

Mine have only climbed up out and onto the heater when the water quality is really BAD. Apart from that or if there is limited oxygen, they have no reason to climb out.

Correct?

During a MASSIVE nitrite spike. No my water quality never gets bad, touch wood :tree:
I was changing gravel and I never cleaned the gravel and most fish dies :(
This was whhen I was starting out in the hobby. Oh how the years go by ;)
