Rules for cats with a house to run

Sorry to hear about your cat Flyingfish. It IS hard to get over. We lost our gorgeous Kahlua almost two years ago and I still think about her everyday and wish she was here. She was such a great companion and so human-like we called her our daugther!
Almost got a new kitten in the weekend but had to say no, I don't want another cat run over outside my house.

I find that keeping the cats inside totally prevent this. It also prevents them from bringing in dead/partially mauled animals, increases the local bird population, prevents cat fights, the spread of diseases and parasites and uncovering 'sign' when working in the garden.

My cats get supervised outdoor time--I work in the back yard, or read outside, and the cats play. When I go in, so do they. Perfectly happy, for all of us.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear it Flying. Look at it this way, 15 years is a good long life that ended with a loving family. And if you had her since she was little, well that's a cat that led a contended life where it was warm, fed, and loved:)

I know what you mean though. I still miss my dog Hunter. He was my bud. (He also had to be put to sleep at a ripe old age because of seizures and kidney failure:(.)

I just talked to my dad on the phone and he said their two dogs escaped this morning and haven't been back since. I'm so worried. They've gotten out a few time before (they live in the boonies) but have always returned in an hour or less:( My dad says he thinks they were following these two moose that live basically in our yard...

Being pregnant is making me too emotional!!! I am laughing at the first post of cat rules, knowing how true it is because I have 3 cats, then almost in tears by the end hearing about all the pets that have passed away :sad: !!! I also have 3 dogs and my pets mean the world to me. I can't imagine life without them, so all my sympathies to the owners of pets who are no longer with us

My mom will love the list. I talked her into a cat a couple of years ago because I knew how in love she would be once she got it, and just last year she acquired a 2nd cat :thm: !!!

I share my sympathies with everyone who's lost pets too. But somehow, I feel like I'll see them again someday. I believe we all will. When you have a pet, you know what it is to have the truest friend. It is because they are beyond what it is to be human that makes them so genuinely special, and so hard to live without.
BTW, my parrot Riko seems to have adapted some of those rules to himself, too. In a big way, I'm not really the one who owns or trains here, its what he's teaching me.
One of his rules;
WAKEUP CALL: At the crack of dawn, don't forget to climb down to bottom of cage (She really hates when I get on the bottom of the cage.) and bang the food dish with head. Also furiously bite and bang cage bars to make metallic clanging sound that really irritates the human's ear.

Hee hee hee at people who have funny stuff to share. And I'm sorry to everyone who has lost a pet. I know how hard it is. I miss my cat Penny, she used to sleep in the sink and it was amusing.

But luckily there are other animals out there who would love to share a home with us and have amazing little personalities of their own.

My cat Daisy thinks that on top of the mouse is a great place to sleep. Also whenever entering or exiting my room, she hunches up about a foot from the doorway and then jumps and runs full speed. It's really strange, and amusing, she only recently started doing it and she does it seriously every time she leaves or comes in. Crazy animals. :) How I love them all.
