There are three varieties of rummy noses. The most common in our tanks is the BLeheri type. Red goes a little beyond the gills. The true rummynose is the rhodostumous(?), but we don't see them very often in the marketplace. Their red usually stops at the gills. The stripint in their tails is the easiest way to differentiate them. For me anyway. The Bleheri have much straighter stripes that are similar in height. The true rummy's have the black stripe more pronounced and slightly angled. I love these little guys. They are tight schoolers, a little temperamental when first acclimated, but strong additions to any community tank.
