Rummy nose tetras???

i like rummys. i just picked up 5 and am thinking about getting some more; the ones i got are TINY.

The more the merrier and the better the schooling behaviors IMO. Rummies do get fairly considerably sized though so always plan your numbers based on adult size. I had 20 in my 55 and they were SWEEEET! Until my Festivum got fasted and snacked on all the smaller ones. :mad2:

I kept some a while back and they are great schoolers and very attractive. One of my favorite tetras. They are sensitive, but they make a great addition to a tank. Just make sure you don't have any big fish that might mistake them for a snack! I actually had a Bosemani Rainbow that ate a couple of mine before I ended up taking him back to my LFS. I remember coming home one day and being shocked at the sight of a Rummynose tail sticking out of the Bosemani's mouth.

i have a 55, i was thinking about grabbing another 5

Keep in mind that there are 3 species which are generically referred to as "Rummynose tetras". They will school together though.

Which species should you look for then? You never see the genus/species name on the tanks at the lfs, it just says 'rummynose tetra.' Is there a way to tell what are the true rummies?

I have 10 rummynoses and they are still going strong after a few months and no deaths. I got them from a reliable LFS. Try and look for a shop that carries the ones that have been fully acclimated to regular medium-hard tap water conditions. I know theirs were fully acclimated before sell
